An Underserved Population
Too often, people with disabilities have difficulty accessing preventive health care services. Women with disabilities receive fewer mammograms and Pap smears, regardless of age, insurance or whether or not they live in long-term care facilities. Some women even report being refused access to health care on the basis of their disability alone. These women are at risk for missed diagnosis, and you, their providers, are responsible.
A Need for Training
Many providers report receiving little or no education on how to adapt care for persons with disabilities. As a result, the focus of care is frequently on the disability itself, rather than the presenting problem. This training is designed to give you the tools and skills you need, thus making care accessible and reducing your risk for missed diagnosis.
